PE and Forest School
This term, we require the children to bring their PE kits into school on their PE days. This should include joggers, shorts or leggings with a house t-shirt or plain t-shirt and a hoodie or jacket for when it is cold outside. We will also incorporating being active within our lessons and brain breaks - increasing how often the children are being active within the school day.
- Class 13 - Wednesday and Thursday
- Class 14 - Monday and Friday
Year 6 will have forest school in Term 6. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn outside and practise fundamental skills. Children must wear trousers, long-sleeved tops and appropriate footwear that is separate to their school shoes. A forest school letter with more information will be sent out nearer the time.
Homework
Homework will be sent home on a Friday and due in the following Friday. This homework will include spellings to learn, times tables, handwriting and a reading focus which are weekly. The children will also receive Maths and English homework to consolidate their learning in class.
Their homework will be provided in an exercise book where they can complete the work set for them. If children are unable to complete their homework there will be homework lunch clubs running on Thursdays and Fridays in school.
Homework is a key part of your child’s learning process as it reinforces what they’ve learned in class and helps develop important skills like time management, responsibility, and independent problem-solving. It also provides an opportunity for you to engage with their progress and support their education at home. By completing homework regularly, students build a strong foundation for future success. For Year 6 students this helps prepare them for the transition to secondary school.
Reading
As your child progresses through Year 5 and 6, fostering a strong reading habit at home becomes increasingly important. Regular reading not only enhances their vocabulary and comprehension but also strengthens critical thinking and creativity. It prepares them for the more challenging academic content they will encounter, while also improving focus and discipline. By encouraging a love for reading at home, you are providing them with tools that will support their success across all subjects. Please join us in making reading a fun and regular part of their daily routine. It is the expectation that children read for 20 minutes a day, at least 5 times a week.
Our class reader this term is: Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver
