Year 4 (ID 1165)

PE

In Year Four PE will be on a MONDAY and FRIDAY.  Children should have their PE kit in school in a NAMED PE bag. During the colder months, your child is allowed to bring a hoody to wear. Alternatively, they can wear their school jumper. Long black/navy bottoms are also suggested for the colder months. Please ensure that it is all named clearly.

Homework

In Year 4, Homework consists of a spelling activity, a times tables activity and a handwriting activity.  In addition to this the children are also expected to read daily.

Reading
It is the expectation that children read for 20 minutes a day at least 5 times a week.  Please ensure that your child’s reading record is signed each day.  The children can borrow books from their classroom or the school library.

This term our class reader is The Day I Fell Into a Fairy Tale by Ben Miller.

Spelling
Year 4 children will have a list of spelling words sent home each week to learn for a test on the Friday.

Handwriting
Children needs to practise the given letter pattern and then copy the given sentence.

Times Tables
Children need to complete the given times tables activity.  They also need to practise their ability to recall the times tables facts by using Times Table Rock Stars or www. timestables.co.uk.  Logins for TTRS are included in your child’s Homework Diary.  Class teachers will also set exciting battles and challenges on this platform.  Engaging in these activities will help your child to recall these facts quickly and accurately.  All times table practice will support our children as they prepare to undertake their Multiplication Tables Check in June.

Multiplication Check

The multiplication check for Year 4 happens in the Summer Term. This check consists of 25 questions of times tables up to x12 with 6 seconds to answer the questions.

Please help your child to learn and practise their times tables.

Ways to help them could be:

  • flashcards
  • chanting them forwards and backwards
  • quick fire questioning
  • using soundcheck on TTRS
