PSHE
At Springbank Primary Academy, we recognise that children today face unique challenges and opportunities. Our Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions about their well-being, health, and relationships, preparing them for a successful and fulfilling adult life in modern Britain.
We offer a well-planned, high-quality PSHE curriculum that helps students develop essential life skills, encourages self-reflection, and provides opportunities to apply what they have learned. Our goal is to support children in becoming emotionally mature and responsible individuals, ready to embrace the decisions and responsibilities of adult life.
Core Themes in PSHE
British Values
We promote the core values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance. These principles are embedded throughout our PSHE curriculum and everyday school life, ensuring students develop respect for themselves, others, and their local, national, and global communities.
Protected Characteristics
Our curriculum also ensures children understand and respect all protected characteristics as defined by law, including age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. Discrimination against these characteristics is prohibited, and we teach children to embrace diversity and respect all individuals.
Through our comprehensive PSHE program, Springbank Primary Academy prepares children to navigate the complexities of the modern world, fostering respect, understanding, and personal growth
Relationships and Health Education (RHE) at Springbank Primary Academy
At Springbank Primary Academy, we provide a comprehensive Relationships and Health Education (RHE) curriculum designed to support students in developing the skills and knowledge necessary for making safe, healthy, and positive choices in life. Through this program, children will gain a strong understanding of relationships, well-being, and personal safety, all in an age-appropriate manner.
Relationships Education
Our Relationships Education lays the foundation for understanding positive relationships, whether with family, friends, or online connections. We teach children the importance of kindness, respect, and consideration in all relationships. By the end of primary school, pupils will have learned about:
- Families and people who care for me
- Caring friendships
- Respectful relationships
- Online relationships
- Being safe
Our aim is to ensure that students not only understand the different types of relationships but also how to maintain them with respect and empathy. The curriculum provides them with the tools to build and nurture healthy relationships in all aspects of their lives.
Health Education
Health Education is an essential component of our PSHE curriculum, focusing on empowering students to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. By the end of primary school, pupils will be equipped with knowledge on:
- Mental wellbeing
- Internet safety and harms
- Physical health and fitness
- Healthy eating
- Facts and risks associated with drugs, alcohol, and tobacco
- Health and prevention
- Basic first aid
- The changing adolescent body
Our goal is to ensure students understand the importance of looking after their bodies and minds, as well as the value of seeking support when needed.
